माथ्यु रिका[१] का जन्म सन् १९४६ १५ फरवरीको फ्रान्सकी ईक्स-ले-बाँ नामक सुन्दर जगह पर हुई थी। उनके पिता जँ-फ्रँस्वा रवेल एक वहुत बडे चिन्तक एवं पत्रकार थे। माथ्यु रिका अभि नेपालके वौद्धनाथ स्तुपाके नजदिक शेचेन गुम्बामे रहेते हैँ।
