- "ऐसी घटना जिसका लोगों के उपर या पर्यावरण के उपर उल्लेखनीय प्रभाव पड़ा हो। उदाहरण के लिये लोगों पर घातक प्रभाव; रिएक्टर की कोर पिघल गयी हो आदि। सन् १९८६ की चर्नोबिल परमाणु दुर्घटना एक ऐसी ही दुर्घटना थी।
