बाह्ययोष्मी या ऍक्टोथर्म (ectotherm) ऐसे जीवों को कहा जाता है जिनकी अंदरूनी प्रक्रियाओं की भूमिका उनके शरीर के तापमान पर नियंत्रण रखने में बहुत कम हो या बिलकुल ही न हो। ऐसे जीव (उदाहरण: मेंढक) अपने बदन में गर्मी रखने के लिए आसपास के वातावरण में मौजूद गरमाहट के स्रोतों का प्रयोग करते हैं। जहाँ गर्मरक्ती प्राणी अपने शरीर का तापमान स्थिर रखने में उर्जा ख़र्च करते हैं वहाँ बाह्ययोष्मी प्राणी अपने शरीर की प्रक्रियाओं को अधिक किफ़ायत से चलाते हैं। बाह्ययोष्मी जीव अक्सर अपने आप को गर्म रखने के लिए धूप में जा बैठते हैं या गर्म स्थान ढूंढते हैं।[१]
